Diapers for Baby's Sensitive Skin

Diapers for Baby's Sensitive Skin

Babies are amazing and magical creatures. They can't tell us what they feel or show us where they're experiencing discomfort, so we have to be extra vigilant about their skin.

Newborns' skin is susceptible since it's still getting used to being exposed to the world outside the womb. For this reason, the first three months of your baby's life are crucial—they're new to this environment and their skin doesn't have the ability to protect itself against irritants and harsh chemicals like older kids and most adults do.

That's why it's so important that we use clean materials and ingredients when we are caring for our infant's skin; otherwise,  we could be doing more harm than good.

How chlorine in diapers affects babies' skin- yes, that's in most baby diaper brands!

Chemical diapers left on your baby's skin for very long periods of time can be harmful to the health of your child. When buying diapers, always use products that are gentle with clean ingredients for your baby's sensitive skin. One of the most harmful ingredients in diapers is chlorine--which is outdated and unsafe; it's one of the causes of diaper rash.

Chlorine is a corrosive chemical that water plants use to kill germs and bacteria. While it can kill harmful things like e-Coli and salmonella, chlorine also kills the good bacteria on your baby's skin that helps protect them from disease. This leaves our baby’s skin dry, irritated, itchy, and feeling uncomfortable—the opposite of what we want for our baby. Chlorine also strips away natural oils from his hair and skin, leaving them dry and flaking off... just like in an old-fashioned bathtub!

Disadvantages of other harmful chemicals present in traditional disposable diapers:

Allergic reaction

Babies wear diapers for 22 hours a day on average, the quality of their diapers is one of the most important factors in ensuring they have happy, healthy skin.

Unfortunately, some traditional diaper manufacturing companies use synthetic fibers, dyes, or harsh chemicals in their products. Harsh chemicals can irritate your baby's sensitive skin and cause allergic reactions. They are also bad for our planet and furry members in your family.

Choosing a natural diaper that is made of natural materials and total chlorine-free is now easier than ever. Parasol Co delivers diapers at your door at very competitive prices.

It may cause skin rashes

Diaper rashes are unfortunately a common occurrence for babies. They are caused by the harmful chemical mentioned above and also if you leave your little one in a dirty diaper for too long, bacteria can grow and lead to rashes. To prevent this from happening, change your baby's diaper as soon as it gets soiled–and be sure to wipe them off thoroughly before putting in a new clean dry diaper.

It may lead to toxicity

You're probably not thinking about this when you're changing your baby's diaper, but did you know that the diapers you're using might contain chemicals?

Traditional diapers are made with synthetic materials that can be harsh on your baby's delicate skin.

This can be worse if you're using cloth diapers, which often contain synthetics that start to break down after a few washes, or if you're using a diaper rash cream.

Even so, the amount of exposure isn't as much to worry about unless your child gets a diaper rash. Then the chemicals can enter your child's body through their broken skin. This can lead to toxicity and make the rash worse!

The differences between traditional and natural diapers are huge and can mean the difference between comfort and redness in your baby's sweet little bum.

Additional Tips from Parasol to take care of sensitive skin

Change diapers often

Change your baby's diaper as soon as it gets full. Wetness irritates the skin and can cause redness and discomfort. If you're using traditional diapers, make sure that they fit snugly so there's no leakage.

Don't use baby powder!

Babies are extremely sensitive to the smell of talcum powder or cornstarch, and can even inhale the very fine grains. This is extremely dangerous for their lungs and could cause serious problems. It's best to just avoid using these powders on your newborn altogether.

Always use a gentle detergent.

This will cut down on the likelihood of itches or irritation, and it's not just for baby clothes! A gentle detergent will help you avoid diaper rash in your young one. Washing everything that touches their skin in the same detergent will ensure that no residue remains anywhere on their skin.
