Our Diapers: Imaginative design in black and white.
The modern prints on our natural diapers and diaper pants are black and white by design, not only because we are fans of minimalism, but because they improve our product design by helping to prevent diaper rash. Who knew?
As we explored diapers with busier, colorful prints, we discovered that the color inks they use are oil-based. This creates a big problem for babies’ comfort and well-being as the inks clog the micropores of the outer fabric and block airflow. Because the diaper cannot breathe, moisture is trapped inside which can quickly lead to irritating diaper rash.
Our ‘aha’ moment was to abandon the status quo color prints of popular diaper brands and march to a more caring drummer. We made the bold decision to design prints using only a water-based, black ink and a 3D embossed printing process. This keeps the micropores of the outer fabric open to maintain airflow, ensuring your baby a breathable diaper for a rash-free experience. And, it puts a more modern, design-forward and individual expression out into the world. We are never happier than when product design and aesthetic design merge to create a meaningful solution.
Our Imagination Box: A creative design story.
With our subscription-based program, we insist the shipping box that safely brings Parasol diapers and baby-care products home to your door must be sturdy and responsibly manufactured with 90% post-consumer recycled materials.
But using our imagination… what if the box had greater purpose? As parents and advocates of early childhood development, we wanted to add meaningful experiences to our eco-friendly brown boxes. We wanted to surprise and delight with imaginative opportunities for early-stage learning and sweet bonding time between babies and their parents or primary caregivers.
What if…the box opened up a special storytime for you and your little one? A time to introduce reading together, to play with fun characters, words and sounds. And what if that same box had a treasure of activities inside, to explore and color, transforming into fun wall art or a playhouse for the nursery and playroom?
Using only eco-friendly, water-based black ink, we reimagined the interiors of our boxes into entertaining and educational family experiences. Ten box designs each reveal a story told in clever rhymes about a friendly animal, illustrated in a midcentury modern style ready for you to color and embellish. The characters you’ll meet include an adventure-seeking llama hiking the mountains of Peru, a squirrel juggling acorns in NYC's Central Park, a soccer-playing flamingo, a surboarding penguin, and more. Each tells a story filled with fun facts, giggly rhymes and life lessons about being an individual in touch with your imagination. There’s also the fun surprise of not knowing which story you’ll receive with your next order. Just look at all of the creativity Parasol families have brought to our imagination box activities.
The imagination doesn’t stop there. The individual, waterproof diaper packages that arrive in those boxes are designed, when empty, to be a catch-all for toys, supplies and toiletries, or to organize your diaper or travel bag.
